" Working in an area that has a significant number of private landlords, a network that simplifies housing and welfare benefit issues and looks at how landlords can maximise their rental income, particularly during the credit crunch, is invaluable and represents excellent value for money. Using the guidance, tips and best practice provided by LIN effectively, means the membership fee is a drop in the ocean compared to the significant savings made through understanding the complexities and loopholes of the benefits system, from a landlords perspective."

Latest statistics published in July 2012 show that in 2010-11, 7.4 million households in England rented their accommodation. Around 3.8 million of these households were social rented sector tenants and 3.6 million were private rented sector tenants. The average weekly rent in 2010-11 was £160 for private renters, compared with £79 for social renters. Around 63% of social sector tenants and 25% of private sector tenants receive Housing Benefit.  (English Housing Survey - February 2012).

The Landlord Information Network is therefore aware of the need to make searching for properties available to tenants on benefits easier and more accessible. Our 'properties to let' page is the first 'residential rented properties portal', that's free for members to advertise properties that are available to tenants claiming benefits.
